Officially established in 2017, Riverbend was created to support the long-term expansion of the Greater Flagstone development, one of South East Queensland's largest planned residential growth areas. The suburb is named after a prominent bend in the Logan River that forms part of its southern boundary.

The suburb has limited local services at present, but residents are only a short drive from nearby Flagstone and Jimboomba, where supermarkets, schools, healthcare facilities, restaurants, and other essential amenities are available. There are currently no schools within Riverbend itself, with the nearest government schools located in Flagstone and Jimboomba
